... and for the most part, a status update.
Before I get to the meat of the second half of Element: Earth, I gotta blog about how the week has been. First of all, my dad was in the hospital till today. He was discharged thankfully, and with a standing order never to ingest the medication that caused a near-fatal problem for him. Good to know that people are on the ball and I'm glad he's okay. He coughs as usual, but that's per standard.
Secondly, I'm quite disgusted with the way a duellist in my area conducted himself. If he ever reads this blog (which I'm certain he'll never do for that matter), I'm sure he'll realize what a prick he was on Saturday.
There are two types of losing. Losing and then Losing Like A Gentleman. Losing Like A Gentleman usually involves smiling, nodding and accepting the win because it was fair and legitimate. Honor among men, ya know? And then there's Losing. Losing usually involves arguing till your face is blue because the opponent player cannot allow themselves to loose because their Ego dictates they cannot do a lick about it.
Here's the scenario. Me vs the player. It's the third round, 1 win, 1 loss each. I just cleared his monster field with the Spell Card, Chaos End which wipes the opposing field. Then, once that little nasty thing resolved, he had two face down cards and I had one. Enter the famous combo that has won me several games at once.
Activate
Heavy Storm, a spell card that destroys the opponents and my Spells and Trap cards. I asked if he wished to respond and the player replied no. Then I
Chain Return From A Different Dimension to the activation of Heavy Storm, a card that resummons as many available monsters from the Out of Play area to the field in Attack or Defence Position, and then checked if he wished to respond. He activated
Torrential Tribute with the claim that he was chaining to my summoning.
NOW here is the problem. A
Chain Resolves Backwards.
Torrential Tribute > Return From A Different Dimension > Heavy StormLooks simple, don't it?
BZZT, WRONG!
Torrential Tribute CANNOT activate at the point in time. Resolving first on the list, it has no valid
Activation Requirement NOR Legal Target. Thus, the card fizzles and cannot even be activated. Then,
Return resummons monsters in which in my case, a combined total of 10,400 ATK points all together on the field. Then,
Heavy Storm activates, destroying all magic and trap cards remaining on the field.
For those who know Chain rules, this cannot happen.
Torrential cannot be activated at that point in time without a Legal Target.
What does this mean exactly? It means that Mr. Man decided to stonewall me with some bullshit and as such, frustrated me with oblique Egoness that I finally exclaimed "FINE! FINE! You want it that way? Go ahead!" And then he "proceeds to attack for the win".
Now, let me ask you this; is that a real way to conduct oneself even in a local non-sanctioned tournament? To risk taking a loss and earning the scorn of every duellist who knows a lick about the game, just for the sake of breaking one's Ego across the street? No, ladies and gentlemen. That right there is the lowest form of Gamer Conduct EVER:
Refusal to Loose For The Sake Of Being A Poor Sport. The guy has been playing as long as I have. No way in HELL could he have not known how a simple Chain works. He was bullshitting me and all of the good players knew it, but he refused to give in because he'd be knocked to third place. That, ladies and gentlemen is why I lost all respect for this player.
Local Player? You're on the Duelling Schooling List.
Now that's all said and done, here's the rest of Element: Earth! Glee! Well, most of it anyhow.
