So um, yeah...
Jun. 20th, 2005 10:10 pm... manga.
I went ahead and picked up Sorcerer Hunters volume 1 and 2. Despite my original memories of the anime, I found that the anime is extremely stripped down from the original series. Considering how they barely scratched the surface of this series, I'm glad I picked it up.
Some noticable differences is that Gateau actually HAS a power, not just Oh He Of The Really Big Muscles. Obsessed with beauty, which does NOT make him by default a gay man since he constantly asks Marron to look at his muscles, his power lends itself to an iron skin which protects him from low to mid-range attack magic.
Marron has his Eastern Magic but it's all seal based and talisman based. He's like Sheena from Tales of Symphonia and a Naruto ninja all rolled into one with the use of talismans and hand seals. Cool.
Tira and Chocolat. Sisters, hotties and DAMN did they have to use the "super outfits" right off the bat. In the original anime, when Tira and Chocolat were non-tapped for power, they wore revealing yet rather concealing outfits of red and orange. They skipped RIGHT to Tira's Bondage Queen outfit with the leather corset and the panties and the boots. Chocolat got her leather low-hip pants and the suspenders. Yeah, I said suspenders. And the hat.
Carrot is the biggest surprise. In the anime, whenever he magically wigged out, he turned into the big ox demon thingy. In this one, he can change depending on the power of the magic and a selection of a good type of form to combat the magic with. Like the Dark Water incident, he turns into a giant seasnake.
Got another manga lately, Sokora Refugees. Silly and doable, it's one of those series that got picked up by Tokyopop during their major contest. I know Jared and Lindsay got their Peach Fuzz series out, but I didn't know more had hit the shelves.
Sokora Refugees takes the parallel world bit with a girl named Kana who gets pulled into another world by an elf kid. She then gets the essense of a hottie elf woman inside her and whenever she blushes, she grows at least several sizes in height and measurements. It's a FUN romp and I'm glad Kana is pretty much helpless most of the time.
Now... I'm gonna have to wait on getting Those Who Hunt Elves volume 1. I MASSIVELY overdrew my account, and I'm down to 60 when I should be at, oh, 130.
