Emergency!
Oh yeah, Power Rangers S.P.D. has premiered on ABC Kids. And true to form, I grabbed the Realplayer version on Will-Powered.
The writing is sound for a 15 years into the future story. The first three charecters we get introduced to are more or less arguing all the time, having the sense of teamwork a orange has. Two street charecters with a Robin Hood Bent to their crimes adds a new element to the storyline.
Sky and Jack. I see some MASSIVE tension between those two. Considering Sky is the son of a Red Ranger if not THE Red Ranger from MMPR aka Jason, he's resenting Jack for getting the Red outfit.
A-Squad Rangers look INSANELY cool. Their costumes represent everything a Power Ranger outfit should look if you want a darker, more millitary appearance to them. That, and it's refreshing to see that A-Squad Power Rangers have dibs on the Megazord and that B-Squad are definately not first tier.
Kat, the new Catgirl alien looks damn good, although it's hard to pick out her ears from such a small encoding. Being based off of a catgirl charecter from the original SPD, it's pretty good to see that they're keeping things simple. But her costuming, Doggie's new Muppet-styled features and the last villian all look spectacular. Doggie I was the most impressed with. Since Disney has the rights to the Muppets and their technology, I'm glad to see they employed the same style of puppetry and facial prosthetics that they used for Mesogog. The double-jaw really gets me going "Cooooool" whenever I see Mesogog's facial structure as well as Doggie's new speech-synchronization with his own mouth.
Fight scenes look as good as they did in Dino Thunder although I could see the definate The Famous Jett Jackson styled action in the story as Jett Jackson tends to do the slow moving super moves at times, coupled with the Jackie Chanish fighting.
One last note... when they posed and called out their names. I'm damn sure that after many years of watching Power Rangers, them posing and calling out stuff like "SPD Blue!" or whatever their color may be, complete with lights flashing on their helmets releases their safeties.
Yeah, I'm sure that Power Ranger powers have safeties. Cause they could be getting owned and then they'd pose. And then the safeties are off and they start kicking butt. Hmm, a plot device for DiaRangers.
Canis : Lets get em!
*Everyone gets owned*
Iap : Any ideas?
Jon : I can't think of anyone.
Shaun : I have it! *poses* DiaRanger Red! Kirby Power!
Canis : You're an idiot posing like that.
Shaun : Heh. *Owns the monster*
Rocker : How'd you DO THAT?
Ryan : Yeah, inquiring minds want to know.
Shaun : *blink* didn't Archive tell you about the safeties?
Everyone : ... damn.
