Re: Oh Snap

I'm so glad I didn't pay for the tickets myself.

Now then, here's a few things I didn't like about it.

A) Pacing. It was a pacing nightmare. Slow slow slow through the whole movie.
B) Hitting plot points that seemed deserved but ultimately a waste of time.
C) "There's Earth under your feet!" Yeah. What the hell. At least the COAL RIG made sense.
D) Sokka and Katara. I'm sorry but their acting was just austere. In a bad way. Episode 3 bad.
E) No Roku. What.
F) Absolutely nothing resembling a plot other than "This is the overall idea" smashing into your face over and over.
G) Zhao. He's such a pussy.

Things I did like:

A) Iroh. Not only he is totally nailed right down to the core but he is so badass he can generate fire with his own chi. Admittedly Firebenders are SUPPOSED to be able to do this already but nevermind that little problem.
B) Zuko. While he's not all "HONORRRRRRRRRR!" in an over the top manner, he is also fairly good.
C) Aang. Surprisingly he wasn't so bad. I mean, the performance could be better but I've seen worse child actors.

The overall idea I'm getting about the movie is that they would have been better off drastically changing the story. There's too much to tell in a short amount of time, and it winds up being the summary to a show we've either A) already seen, or B) haven't seen and thus can't understand because it's coming at you in hyperspeed. Oh, and that the acting is pretty damn bad.

Yeah, even my brother realized this when we found out that it took them till the Southern Frickin Air Temple for Aang to even give Katara and Sokka his NAME.

Ugh.

By the way, sulking about CSI season 11. Rassin frassin...

AUGH.

... That bad huh?

I could keep going about the flaws. But it would take me the rest of the night to summarize.

;-; I paid $45 for them. Argh.

I think my initial analysis was a little too kind. It was a bad movie with good moments. :/ -- Though I liked Sokka, in that he had potential. They didn't give him enough chances to be funny. ...Or do anything.

Sokka had so much potential but so little time to be funny I agree.

I heard Aang's name is pronounced differently in it. Is that true or is it bullshitting?

Also ... Not surprised about Zhao being pussified, considering who they casted him with. As much as I love my Daily Show, casting the correspondants in semi-serious to serious roles? Yeee- no.

I haven't seen it yet, and being the sheep I am don't plan too, just because Angry Joe told me "don't see it man" and "the cartoon cannot be this bad".

[identity profile] shaungarin.livejournal.com 2010-07-26 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
The pronunciation for everyone is technically correct, but it is taking into consideration of their name origins. Aang is pronounced "Ahung" than anything else.

It's more of a summary of a plot we already KNOW. Which makes it a waste of money.

[identity profile] alanddizzy.livejournal.com 2010-07-25 02:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah that's pretty much how I felt about it. I mean yeah Sokka had his whole "I've gotta be a responsible big brother" thing down but at the same time he suffered most from how chopped up the film was. Having the narrator tell you two characters fell in love is not the same as watching them develop the relationship.

[identity profile] shaungarin.livejournal.com 2010-07-26 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. It's really more like a summary of book 1 water than anything else. And it's a shame cause the idea behind it is better, if they allowed the actors to be more loose rather than cold and austere than anything else. They should really have made a whole new story, like they did with a few other shows/books to movies that I can't think of right now.
