Box Ghost Not Included
The episode starts out fairly quickly, Ash training for his next gym battle at Sunyshore against Volkner and his opponent is Dawn of course. A round of blows is about to take place when Monferno's dig strikes a solid object, causing it to run around in pain. When fully revealed, it's a treasure chest which Team Rocket observes.
Of course greed wins over Team Rocket's ambitions and they promptly try to snatch it, sans a giant robot and are blasted away. And then James gets an epiphany of what it is. It's apparently a box HE buried long ago. Hoping that it contains a couple of years worth of allowances, they go back and plead with the trio to get the box back. However, they try three incorrect passwords and it sprouts a cannon and blasts them a short distance away.
And then James realizes what's in there, and goes completely pale, citing it's something he should never allow to exist. Meanwhile, Ash Dawn and Brock manage to find one of James' estates (read: the man is fucking wealthy), and Sebastian shows up all delighted since if the box was recovered then logically James is close by. While Ash and Co are treated to desserts and treats, James concocts a plan to get the box back from them and shows up shortly afterwards with Jessie dressed up as Jessiebelle and both him and Meowth in suits. Only the untimely arrival of Growlie, James' pet Growlithe foiled this plan, but before Sebastian could Stringshot James, he stopped him with his pokemon and dropped him into a pit via secret button.
Taking stock of what they knew and James's reason for burying the box, they were forced to escape through a secret tunnel which Sebastian obviously knew, since he and the real Jessiebelle followed through. Escaping out the door, Brock and Ash barred it with rocks as James attempted to destroy the box. Unfortunately after the 33rd failed password and a climactic battle with the box which turns into a robot, the box turns into a rocket and blasts off. Jessiebelle and Sebastian manage to get through and James in a show of relenting, convinces Ash to thunderbolt them since they have no way of predicting where they'll blast off too. Unfortunately, the blast separates James and Meowth from Jessie and Jessiebelle comes landing with them, while Jessie is mistaken by the suits for Jessiebelle. The episode ends with the kids going towards Sunyshore and James and Meowth running with Jessiebelle calling out "You're not running properly!"
This episode inspired me to start doing reviews for the Pokemon series, and after the amazing turn of events since the Team Galactic episodes, it's nice to settle down for some lunacy. The entire episode focuses on a plot device introduced way back in Kanto region, and rears its ugly head once in a while.
You'd think that a kid like James who grew up wealthy would have wanted to live the rich life despite how strapped for cash he and the rest of Team Rocket are. In Sinnoh it's even worse since they're so strapped for cash. In Kanto and Johto they weren't so badly off but by Hoenn, Giovanni had gotten tired of their antics and black hole of money and by Sinnoh, had completely forgotten who they were. But in true Team Rocket flavor, they eschew James' wealth for the opportunity to be free, which his team joining really is about. He doesn't really care for having the bad luck to get thunderbolted into the next episode, and in this episode welcomes the opportunity. As long he's away from his crazy family.
As seen in the original episode featuring his family, his entire family is batshit fruit loopy, and Jessiebelle is a horrible dominatrix who has a whip and a stun spore wielding Vileplume. The whip didn't come out this episode but the mere thought of her being within arms proximity is pure fear on his part. His reactions were classic and the entire episode was a throwback to the hanging plot threads that one keeps encountering. Never assume anything in Pokemon because this series has a habit of picking back up those things and messing with you.
Pokemon used in this episode were Pikachu, Piplup, Monferno and Growlithe. Guest stars were Sebastian and Jessiebelle. "The Treasure Is All Mine!" was aired on April 17.
