Finality - Ben and Negi
I figured I'd post my interpretations on how Ben and Negi's worlds ended. It's more or less a fanfic in progress.
“What’s going on?” demanded Ben as he charged into the Plumbers HQ under Bellwood.
“Seismic activity reported all over the world Ben, and it gets worse.” Pressing a button, Max displayed a large rift in space.
“Wow, shades of Futurama,” remarked Kevin, folding his arms.
“What are we looking at?” inquired Gwen curiously.
“The end of our reality.” In a flash of light, Azmuth stood there on the console, his back to the others. “It is something we hoped nothing would happen to us, but it’s begun.”
“The Ohm,” said Max in realization.
“Ohm? Wait, those are just fairytales, like the thing that goes bump under your bed at night,” said Kevin. “My dad used to tell me stories about them when I was a kid, before he left.”
“They’re real, and they’re here. For centuries, Galactic Society’s been aware of these reality destroyers. And once in a while, we’d get a rift from the adjacent worlds, refugees who manage to make it away. The Dialgig is the first and only line of defense, though the Plumbers have made progress on them.” Said Azmuth. “They’re reality destroyers, able to destroy countless worlds and realities in a single blow.”
“Worse than the Highbreed?” inquired Ben.
“They make the Highbreed look like a group of inbred yokels,” replied Azmuth with a dour look on his face. “If they’ve finally managed to penetrate the shield that Verdona’s people have erected around our reality…”
“Then we’re next,” summed up Gwen. “What about Grandma?”
“Gone probably,” said Max with a hint of emotion in his voice. “The anodytes were our first and only line of defense against them. Conventional weaponry is hard to deal with them.”
“There is hope however,” said Azmuth. “We still have time before the Ohm starts sending their troops through the rift in reality. We need to preserve Primus.”
“What good will that do?” inquired Ben.
“It’s the combined DNA samples of everything in our universe Ben. With it, you could restore life when the time comes to do so.”
“We’ll have to add our own DNA to it as well,” said Max. “In case any Dialgig ships don’t show up.”
“It’s risky, but we have no choice.” Azmuth looked over at Gwen and Kevin. “Yours too.”
Placing their hand on the Omnitrix, it started to glow. And then in a voice similar to Ben, it reported “DNA sequences stored.”
“Ben, what you hold right now is the final preservation of the known universe.” Azmuth smirked. “Don’t screw it up.”
Ben looked at his watch and at the others. “Are you guys sure that you’ll be okay?”
“Go Ben, get Primus,” said Max.
“We’re counting on you.” Added Gwen and the pair hugged.
“Take care of yourself Tennyson, I wanna punch that mug of yours if you fail,” said Kevin and the pair bopped fists.
Ben nodded and said, “Omnitrix, teleport to Primus.”
In a flash of light Ben was away.
From the rift, thousands upon thousands of the Ohm came, descending upon the worlds. And Primus vanished once more, as Ben watched his universe end.
Finality.
That’s all Negi could see as he stood at the top of the Great Paru-sama.
He had roused himself from a horrible nightmare filled slumber, and plunged into hell.
The sky had turned black, and the brilliance of some unearthly light filled the gate of Ostia with some terrible light. But all around them, the hideous buzzing filled the air.
No…
“Sensei…” In a flash of light, Asakura vanished.
“Negi Sensei!” exclaimed Setsuna. She vanished as well.
One by one, the voices cut into Negi’s mind as he tried to reach for them, only to watch them vanish into wisps of light. And finally, Asuna stood at the cabin door, his name on her lips.
Negi…-san…
And in an instant, the girl changed from Asuna, to an elvish looking girl moments before the chaos struck. The world shook, the clouds spun in different directions. The magic grew to a fever pitch and then everything collapsed inwards.
Peace. And quiet.
Fate turned to look at Negi. And his eyes bore into him. For a moment, they were standing at the precipice of darkness. And then he too vanished in a twist of light.
“Sorry kid,” floated a voice on the wind. “This… wasn’t part of the idea.”
And just like that.
The world ended with a whimper.
Negi didn’t realize it, but he had been screaming the entire time as his world faded to darkness.
And in the ensuring silence, the deafening horror of losing his world was clear.
He had failed.
No one was going home.
