Christmas Morning

It's Christmas morning at 8:42 and here I am with less than 5 hours sleep. And yet I can't go to bed anymore. Why? Call it child-like fascination with the day. I could never sleep in on Christmas no matter how little sleep I've gotten the day before.

Stomach problems still abound a little, but not as plainly as before. And lately I've been drinking a lot of coffee.

In other news, I got another idea for an AU Nanoha set in Warcraft. I'll throw up the rough idea I have right now.

Nanoha was born to a fairly noble family that had taken up residence in Theramore. Her mother was a mage while her father was a knight in service of Lady Proudmoore. During a trip into the Barrens to trade for furs and supplies, their caravan was attacked and Nanoha was presumed lost at the age of four.

She managed to survive in the Barrens as a wild child, causing trouble and often found hunting like an animal would for small game and sometimes does and bucks found on the Savannah. Her presence became something of a tale to be told to unwary travelers who would soon find their provisions stolen by the girl.

During one of these routine events, Nanoha got caught by the Goblin Enforcers that were accompanying the caravan bound from Tanaris to Orgrimmar, carrying slaves that were to be sold at auction and sold as hardy warriors. The Goblins captured her and brought her to the Orc city, and it was here that High Warlord Sarufang noticed the girl. She was messy and filthy, and bore clothing that was ragged and made of sewn animal skins, but there was something that made him pity her, for there was a curious gentleness in her feral eyes.

He purchased her, outbidding several dozen by far, and brought her home intending to free the girl into the wild. But Nanoha escaped into the city, and it was only through a long hunt that she was finally found, hiding in Thrall’s home in Grommash Hold of all places, having stated “she was lead there.”

The girl knew rough Orcish as well as Goblin and Taurahe, but the memory of Common had long since been drummed out from disuse. Sarufang’s wife cleaned her up, and they decided to raise her as their own. Sarufang the Younger was strongly opposed to this, citing that it would look weak if a human child was being brought up by their family. Nanoha had none of that and recklessly challenged the Younger, who was brought to his knees in a fairly violent orc-like fight, even if it was bare handed wrestling. Sarufang the Elder chastised his son and his son accepted the young girl into their family.

The next day, she was brought in front of Thrall who bore great interest in the girl. The spirits told him and Vol’jin to train Nanoha, for she possessed great clarity, uncommonly found in humans. She could see the spirits without the aid of Saipa or any other method to expand the consciousness, a rare gift indeed. Vol’jin and Thrall decided to split her time across ten years. For five, she would learn the way of the Mages from the Trolls. For another five, she would learn the mystical art of Shamanism. And supplement it with the skills of a proud warrior.

Nanoha was brought to the troll village of Sen’jin at the southern tip of Durotar, where she was placed into Vol’jin’s care. As a member of the Horde, she learned reading and writing in the Orcish tongue, but also in several other dialects to facilitate diplomatic integration. They hoped that she would become a diplomat, able to assist the shaky grounds between the races of the Horde, as well as the Alliance.

During this time, Vol’jin brought a newcomer to his home in Sen’jin; a young boy orphaned during an attack on Theramore. The Brood Mother Onyxia had woken up from her slumber and the great black dragon Onyxia was laying siege with her Dragonkin. Lady Proudmoore, a staunch ally of Thrall, had sent children and women to the great city. It was here that Yuuno, a young boy was brought under the care of Vol’jin himself. Yuuno was the son of one of Theramore’s mages, and he already knew some spells that were unique to the Alliance. Vol’jin encouraged him to share these spells with Nanoha, and the pair, after a rocky start, grew to be friends.

During the next four years, Nanoha grew, gaining more confidence and skill as a mage. She moved on from simple fire and ice spells to tapping the arcane with astounding proficiency that had many of the mages of Sen’jin pleased and a little confused at her rapid growth. She was sent on many diplomatic missions, aiding the allies of the Horde such as the Tauren of Mulgore, and the Goblins of Ratchet and Tanaris. Yuuno accompanied her, and the pair continued to train and work for the Horde, far surpassing Vol’jin’s expectations. The great shaman leader was pleased, and was ready to show Thrall just how far she had grown, and how open she was to the spirits still.

It was on the last few months of her training when she was 13 when she was sent on one last diplomatic mission. The Blood Elves of Silvermoon City were attempting to open negotiations as the Alliance had turned against them in a fairly twisted racial incident. To this end, Vol’jin deemed it a worthy test, and sent Nanoha and Yuuno there to negotiate with them.

For the first part, the rulers of the Blood Elf city were opposed, and a little insulted at the arrival of a pair of humans as the ambassadors of the Horde. Several talks degenerated into insult slinging and it was after one of these talks forced a recess, which Nanoha met up with a young girl in the square. Her name was Fate.

Nanoha and Fate made friends with each other, and for the next few days met after talks went straight to hell despite Yuuno’s best efforts. She discovered that Fate was a Youngling, a girl barely out of her tweens, and was being railroaded into the Blood Knights, a group of Paladins that formed after a new mystical source of power had been obtained. Before Nanoha could inquire about it, Alicia, her elder sister interrupted, and told Fate it was time. Nanoha was not allowed to accompany them, but she snuck in anyway, followed by Yuuno. There, she discovered that the being M’uru, a Naaru of the Light was being forcibly drained and Fate was to taste its magic in order to fuel the powers of the Light.

Nanoha spoke up at that moment, demanding that Fate should be given a choice. Alicia and her mother Precia were shocked that the Horde Ambassador had found their way in, and despite trying to remove Nanoha by force resulted in her freezing everyone in place, Nanoha demanded a Honor Duel with their champion. Alicia accepted despite Precia’s protests. However it was allowed.

Fighting against Alicia was difficult from the get-go, as the young woman employed shields of divine light to protect her, as well as mechanics to lock and stun Nanoha, and almost finish her off. Yuuno watched in horror and demanded the fight to end, but Nanoha pulled through in the nick of time, mastering Blink at that very moment in order to sling a enormous Frostfire Bolt at her, a trademark of the highest advanced mages. The magic slammed into Alicia who was caught off guard, and the fight ended with her trapped to her neck in ice.

Nanoha who passed out, was praised by Vol’jin and Thrall who had arrived hours before and was informed of the duel, as well as the leader of the Blood Knights Lady Liadrin who was impressed with the young girls talent. Fate, who had been previously forced into the path was now free to choose, and surprised everyone by stating she would become a paladin, but on her own terms.

Thrall agreed, as with Vol’jin and Cairne who had arrived for the talks. With the blessing of the leaders of the horde sans Sylvanas who had simply sent a missive stating “Do what you wish”, the Blood Elves joined the Horde completely. And not a moment too soon as an attack force was headed their way, composed of the elves loyal to the deranged Prince Kal’thelas who was intending on capturing the Sunwell, and the hidden bearer of it.

Deciding now was the time to open up more relations, Cairne contacted the leader of the Night Elves, Tyrande Whisperwind in order to gain the permission to portal to Darnassus and open talks with new allies, as well as finding a teacher of the Light for Fate. Tyrande agreed, and the young ones were sent to Darnassus where they were met by Tyrande herself who assigned a sentinel to them, a half-elven girl named Amy Limietta. Talks were short with the elves who deemed to meditate on the situation, as the leader of the Druids strongly opposed the elves abandoning the Alliance for the Horde once more.

To this end, while they were to meditate, Amy suggested they take a boat to Azuremyst Isle in order to find Fate a teacher. Arriving on Draenei soil, they were met by a contingent of Paladins from the Hand of Velen lead by Enforcer Chrono. He brings them to Velen who says their coming was foretold, as it was “The Beginning of the End”. With those words over their heads, Velen spoke of a dark movement that was starting to slide across the world, and immediately Fate was set to train as a paladin.

A month passed and finally the elves reached a decision to aid the Horde when they called upon it, as fighting amidst themselves was becoming dangerous at best. Fate progressed well in calling upon the light with faith alone, and she quickly graduated from their training camp.

With Nanoha’s time up, they were sent back to Orgrimmar and right into chaos. A terrifying Necropolis had appeared overhead, and it was raining zombies. They fought as hard as they could, but were forced to retreat. It was then that salvation came in the form of Rexxar, who had been tracking the movements of the Scourge for some time. After fresh reinforcements from the Forsaken arrived along with him, the undead were culled with minor injuries and no one important turned. Sarufang the Younger returned from Outland, and he was immediately chosen to work with the Alliance. Highlord Bolvar requested the aid of the Alliance with the help of King Varian who had returned from his exile, and they were to move as one and march upon Icecrown when the time came.

Thrall decided that her training had to wait, and so sent Nanoha and her friends to Stormwind who was still reeling from the invasion. A larger group would seem more hostile, especially with the temperamental king on the throne once more. Arriving via portal by Jaina Proudmoore who had also come to aid the Horde in their fight against the undead, they were treated as guests in the court.

Varian was unimpressed by the slip of a girl who stood in Thrall’s place, but he listened. While the Nobles decided to debate on the subject as the King mediated, they were sent into the town to look it around. That’s when Nanoha noticed a small store in the canal district, and entered it. It was total chaos when she did as her parents swept her up. Nanoha recognized their faces from hazy memories, and was finally reunited with her family.

Hijinks aside? Goddamn I'll need some sleep later this afternoon.
