MGLN: Remnants of Fate - Unfinished Draft pt1 MGLN/KH

Through the underbrush, a figure ran, parting the large tropical leaves and scrambling over a pile of rocks before sliding down it. As he ran, a second form, taller than the first bound over it effortlessly. “Hurry or they’ll catch us,” hissed the second.

“I know that,” grunted the first as he looked up and then pushed the taller one away as a pair of black humanoid creatures plummeted down atop him. There was a brilliant flash of light as they exploded into smoke as the first now carried a large gold and white key in his hand. “Great, they’ll have seen this.”

“All the more reason to get moving,” said the taller, brushing silver hair away from his face. “C’mon 01.”

“Coming 02.”

The pair continued to run through the jungle, pushing through the foliage. “Once we get to civilization, we can hop a ship and get off this world,” said 02 as he snapped a branch in his way. “From there, we’ll find someone who can help us rescue 03 and 04.”

“And then we can live normal lives,” wheezed 01 as he leaped out. “How much further till we’re out of Deep Jungle?”

“Not far, just another kilometer or so,” replied 02 as he looked at the small book in his hands. “Jiminy?”

[Confirmed 02: Deep Jungle is going to end. We’ll be near Land of Dragons soon,] reported the intelligent device.

Nodding, 02 grabbed 01’s hand. “You have to make it there,” he said seriously. “01, you have to make it out of Deep Jungle.”

“What? 02 aren’t you coming with me?” demanded 01. 02 shook his head and 01 exclaimed, “Why not?”

“Two of us will be found; that’s why 03 and 04 were caught. I’m doubling back to find them.”

“Then I’m coming too,” said 01 but 02 shook his head. “Again why not?”

“01 listen: you carry the key. We can’t afford to let them get their hands on it. Already their Unversed is upon us. Go. I’ll catch up later.” He pushed 01 towards the boarder of the jungle where it was stretching towards an oriental-looking port town. “GO!”

01 was about to argue when 02 crashed back into the underbrush. “02…”

Fighting back tears, 01 charged towards the port town.

“Welcome to Destiny Islands Miss Harlaown,” said the receptionist. “Business or pleasure?”

“Pleasure,” replied Fate as she handed over her passport and the woman stamped the travel papers.

Picking up her things, Fate felt a little bad for lying to the woman. She was here on business, but of the Enforcer kind, and undercover to boot. There had been reports of a secret base functioning there, and since the JS incident, Fate had been dedicated to ferrying out secrets.

Standing near the door was Tiana Landster, who was dressed in a nice set of casual clothing with her hair down. “Fate-chan,” she greeted, in her “disguise” of her girlfriend.

“Tia-chan,” greeted Fate, keeping up appearances as she gave Tia a hug and quick kiss on the cheek, one that elicited a real blush from Tia. “Did you wait long?”

“No, I just arrived,” replied Tiana with a smile. “Let me get your things for you.”

Outside, once secure in the TSAB car that was waiting for them, Fate dropped the act but not her smile. “I hope I didn’t keep you waiting too long Tiana,” replied Fate.

“It’s okay,” replied Tiana with a blush. “Did you have to kiss me?”

Fate blushed and Tiana giggled as she started the car. “We’re staying at the Mouse Club. It’s the unofficial TSAB headquarters here on 42.”

“Has there been word from headquarters? New orders since I arrived?” inquired Fate, all business.

“Not too much,” replied Tiana, pulling into traffic. “There has been reports of strange activity near Deep Jungle though. We’ll have to figure out what’s going on before we can make any advances.”

Fate sighed, nodding. Waiting was always the hardest part of being a TSAB member, especially an Enforcer that was doing undercover work.

Episode 01: Sora no Kaze

01 awoke to the sound of voices in the other room and the sensation of a cool cloth on his head. “He’s awake,” said a young chipper voice. “Try not to move, you’ve been out of it for a few days.”

“Where… am I?” inquired 01 as he tried to look around. What he did see were trappings of a fisherman’s house.

“You’re in my place,” replied a gruff voice and the smell of tobacco followed him as a tall blonde man dressed in a jacket with messy blonde hair and a unshaven stubble looked down at him. “Yuffie found ya and dragged you here.”

“Yuffie…?” 01 looked over at the girl who was dressed in a dark floral print top and shorts with a headband around her dark hair. “H-hi…”

“Hi yourself,” chirped Yuffie. “You must have taken a really bad fall; we found you at the edge of the water!”

“Thought you were dead for a sec, or the heartless got ya. Either way, glad you’re alive.” The man sat down with a grunt. “I’m Cid Highwind, this here’s my ward, Yuffie Kisaragi. What’s your name sport?”

“My… name?” 01 looked upwards into the ceiling. “My name…”

“You got amnesia?” inquired Yuffie, poking him in the shoulder. “To go along with your nakedness.”

01 blushed. “I’m naked?” He looked under the covers. Yep. “C-can I get something to wear?”

In short order, 01 looked at his outfit: a red shirt with white and blue trimmings, blue pants and really big yellow shoes. “S’all we have kid,” said Cid. “Take it or leave it.”

“It’s… nice,” said 01. “Where am I?”

“You’re in Traverse Town,” said Cid, brushing the window aside and showing the dark skies above them. “The part of this planet that’s in perpetual moonlight. It’s a fishing village.”

“You must have drifted here since there’s few who come to the town anyhow,” said Yuffie. “We get trade from Radiant Garden, the capital but it’s been slow recently.”

“Radiant…?” A flash of memory. The scrambling, the yelp of 04… 01 held his head.

“Looks like he’s remembering something,” said Cid, tapping out his cigarette. “Kid, don’t push it. The worst amnesiacs can do is push something. And then they forget something or freeze up in battle.”

“I see.” 01 rubbed his head a little and sighed. “Thanks.”

“We’ll be meeting with Ansem the Wise on these matters,” said Fate as she relayed her orders to Tiana. “From there, we’ll be checking to see if there’s anything in the old Deep Jungle facility where it’s said that people were doing experiments.”

Tiana nodded, looking up from where she was cleaning Cross Mirage. “Anxious?”

“A little,” said Fate. “I feel bad for leaving Nanoha-chan and Vivio-chan at this point in time but it really feels like I need to get out a little.” She smiled at Tiana. “Besides, it wouldn’t be helpful if I hadn’t made good on my promise to teach you right?”

Tiana rubbed her head, chuckling. “You have a point.”

Fate nodded as she thought back to her briefing, and the people who had assigned her this mission.

It was during the clean up of the JS incident items, when teams picking through the Saint Cradle found it. It was a message, encoded to someone known only as X from Jail, about a project that they were working together on. For the higher ups to not know about Jail’s associates other than the numbers that still supported his actions, they had assigned her and Tiana to the destination that the message was sent to.

Unadministered Planet 42 was a unique world that it was host to places people call ‘worlds’ from their own perspective. Places with its own unique landscape and system dotted the large world. Radiant Garden, where they were headed was a shining city built on the edge of a grand waterfall. The city they were now in was known as Destiny Islands, and it was an island chain with a “mainland” and boats that ran to a place where kids could spend their summer vacations at. A boat ran to Traverse Town, and from there, a train that connected to Twilight Town and then from there to Radiant Garden. There were ‘worlds’ in between each of them, as the train crossed the deserts of Agrabah, the savannah of the Pridelands, as well as Deep Jungle that was close to Radiant Garden.

There were many parts of the world that were also a part of this one, but the information came in that someone was hiding something here. Coupled with the native creatures that roamed the lands, heartless they called, it was hard to police, and much harder to help. Heartless were kept at bay for the most part from big major cities. But sometimes they appeared, all with one goal in mind: to steal the heart of everyone they came across.

The going theory was that it was an experiment gone wrong, and the heartless peppered the landscape in many different “tribes”, ranging from floating spellcasters to large bodies. Each one of them had a distinct power and were called emblems. The black bug-like ones were called naturals, and were the ones that were sort of the foot soliders.
