Sailor Moon: Future Tense

I don't think I could have slept tonight without jotting down this idea. It's set two years after Sailor Moon and in the same continuity obviously.

My brain is screaming Trilogy right now, and SM:FT is no exception. I'm just surprised I'm so wide awake right now.

Kandahar Province

“So I’ll be home in a few days,” said the young woman.

“Seems far too long to me,” replied the man on the other side. “Have you been eating well? Sleeping as much as possible? Please tell me you haven’t shot any of your troops by accident.”

“Yes, yes, and what do you take me for, Mamo-chan?” said Usagi, clearly put out. “I haven’t had a friendly fire accident since training!”

“I know, I know,” chuckled the Prince of the Earth. “I just want you home soon. Our wedding is in two weeks.”

“Yeah I know. It’s going to be great.” Said Usagi, smiling dreamily for a moment before looking up at a man who was waving at her from outside the tent. “Ach, I need to get going. Love you lots Mamo-chan, I’ll see you when I get back!”

“Take care.”

Getting up, Usagi smoothed her fatigues as she stepped out. “Major, what’s up?”

Major Daniels, a veteran of Moon Company gestured. “One of our boys found it in the desert. You really need to look at it.”

“This close to the camp?” inquired Usagi as she followed the Major over to a small area cordoned off by a group of science heads. “Everett, Jiro, what do we have?”

“Your guess is as good as ours General,” said Jiro, pushing his glasses up as he got to his feet. “It looks like a coffin.”

Kneeling down next to the half-buried box in the sand, Usagi traced a finger across it. “The markings are from the moon; probably some kind of capsule holding something. I would suggest getting a team out here, get it out of there and see if you can’t crack it open.”

“Good call General.” Said Everett as he and Jiro set to work clearing the dust away from the box and moving to hoist it out of the ground.

“What would a box from the Silver Millennium be doing here?” said Major Daniels. “It doesn’t make sense.”

“Not everything we’ve recovered so far makes sense,” replied Usagi. “Old preserved clothing, toys, a few data crystals, but nothing quite like this. It looks like a lockbox.” She sighed and looked at the sun before checking her watch. “Daniels, I’m going to go finish up my paperwork. Make sure I’m not disturbed until I come out of the tent.”

“Aye sir.” Daniels watched his young General leave and smiled wryly. “Probably going to slack off and read manga.”

“Really?” inquired Everett as he pulled the box free. “The General’s like that?”

“Oh yeah,” laughed Jiro. “You’re new to Moon Company but her laziness is legendary.”

“Then why are we letting her slack off on her work?” inquired Everett. “Isn’t that a misuse of company time?”

“Son, we’ve got two rules here right now in the middle of Kandahar Province. One is never to interrupt the General’s personal time.” Said Daniels.

“And the other?”

“Don’t interrupt the General’s personal time – cause she’s the Goddamn Moon Princess.”

Everett made a face. “Permission to speak freely sir?”

“Granted.”

“You suck.”

Daniels laughed as did Jiro and the men hauled the box away.

Tokyo, Japan

It was night in Tokyo when it happened; the skies above a park went rainbow in color. The last time this happened, a pink carrot-haired girl fell from the sky. This time it was no different.

But instead of a pink haired girl falling from the sky, it was a pink haired woman dressed in black army fatigues and she landed, creating a small crater and making a few dogs bark nearby.

“I’m finally back,” said the woman as she stood up, brushing her long pink hair away from her face. A sinister smile spread across her face as she began to trudge towards the city.

“Prepare yourself Usagi… because of you I’ve seen hell.”

Usagi giggled as she flipped a page. When the sound of clearing a throat was heard, Usagi hastily stuffed the manga under her paperwork. “Don’t you know how to knock?!”

“I thought you’d be more mature by now kitten,” smirked Haruka Tenou and Usagi jumped to her feet in surprise before tackling her friend in a hug. “Oof! Don’t you get your daily dose of hugs here?”

Usagi blushed as she let go. “Sorry, I just haven’t seen anyone in weeks save for video chat. How is everything? How come you’re here?”

“What, I can’t check up on my princess once in a while?” replied Haruka with a lazy grin. Usagi pouted and she laughed. “Truth be told though, I just came by on my break from the race pit. Seems that Setsuna just got a flash from the box your boys just unearthed.”

“Aw man!” exclaimed Usagi. “Lemme guess – Butterfly.” The pair chorused.

“Figures,” added Usagi. “I shouldn’t have given up my identity two years ago. It would have made things SO much easier.”

“And so much harder too,” reminded Haruka. “But mind you, CT still stands so we’re still all shiny. And you’re still Queen.”

“Well long live the Queen then,” said Usagi with a roll of her eyes.

Haruka shrugged. “Best thing to do is to weather the storm. We’re rolling in for a possible divergence but you can never tell with butterflies. I need to get back kitten; my next race is in five.”

“You take care then, and tell Mamo-chan he’d have better organized everything by now with momma!” said Usagi, giving her friend a quick squeeze.

“Gotcha. Uranus Planet Power Make Up!” a quick swirl of energy and Haruka vanished in a Sailor Teleport.

Usagi looked down at her paperwork which was still daunting, and the manga hidden under it. “Looks like Me Time isn’t going to happen…”

Tokyo University

“Dismissed. Read pages twenty seven through forty one before class!”

Ami folded up her things and shouldered her bag as she stepped down from the lecture hall into the hallway, still going over the anatomy class she had just taken when she bumped into a male figure. “Oh sorry about tha… Ami-chan?”

Ami looked up at the rather tall male and she took a moment to place him. When she did, her eyes widened under her glasses. “Urawa-kun!”

Ryo Urawa grinned. “I thought I saw you in the hallway so I waited until your class was done to intercept you. I haven’t seen you in years!”

“I’ve been busy,” replied Ami with a faint blush. Oh my, he had grown up quite handsome. And he was right: it HAD been a long time. “What brings you to Tokyo University?”

“Art classes mostly,” replied Ryo. “But at the same time I wanted to, um, well… see you again. It’s been a really long time since we last saw each other and, well, considering you’re a celebrity now…”

Ami ducked her head, blushing heavily. “So you’ve been keeping track of me over the years?”

“Kind of hard not to. So, Captain is it?”

“Officially yes, but Mercury Squad gets just fine without me,” replied Ami. “They all know how important it is for me to become a doctor.”

“Are you going Civilian or Military when you finish?” inquired Ryo as the pair started to walk towards the campus library.

“Ah, I don’t know actually. I’ve wanted to go Civilian, and finally retire Captain Mercury but um…”

“You want to help people,” said Ryo with a light grin. “I understand. Still though, I’m amazed you all went public.”

“Well it was inevitable, considering Usagi-chan went public first.” Replied Ami as she thought of that day two years ago on a podium in front of the UN. At first it was unbearable, being a celebrity. Even worse was the paparazzi that followed them everywhere but the hubbub died down, for the time being. The Senshi had all but retired save for those who actively served in the UN armed forces, such as Usagi who had gotten fast-tracked into service and worked as a field General.

“How did you deal with the media?” inquired Ryo curiously.

Ami smiled a little. “Michiru gave me tips, and when Minako finally became an idol singer, she showed me what I needed to do to fade from the public eye for a while to focus on school.”

“And that is?” inquired Ryo.

“Be boring as hell. I haven’t transformed in nearly a year.”

Ryo barked a laugh. “Ami, you’ve never been just NORMAL to me. You’ve been a vibrant young woman.”

Ami blushed. “T-thank you Urawa-kun…”

Nerima Ward

While not as chaotic as manga professed it to be, Nerima residents had a keen sense of when something was weird or off. When that happened, you didn’t bat an eye at it, and gave it a wide berth lest it proved to be hostile.

The appearance of a woman in black storming down the main roads was one of them, and she had made three rotations of the city block before finally letting out a “RRGH!” of frustration. “Where the hell is the way out of this rat maze?!”

“How long has she been doing that?” inquired Ryoko Hibiki of her friend Dachi Musume.

“About twenty minutes now,” replied Dachi. “I think she’s got no sense of direction in Nerima.”

“And here I thought I had a bad sense of direction…” Gathering her courage, the teenager stepped up to the pink haired woman. “Excuse me, miss? Are you looking for something?”

“Yes, I am.” Said the woman as she fixed a ruby glare on the girl. “Where is the Tsukino Household from here?”

“Tsukino?” echoed Ryoko. “Uh… that way, a in Azubu-Juuban.”

The woman blinked. “Wait, you mean I’m not in Juuban? Where the hell am I then?!”

“Nerima!” squeaked out Ryoko. “Um, do you need a guide? I mean, Nerima’s a bit of a maze when you’re new here…”

“No… I’ll find my way.” Her fist clenched and the pink haired woman began to chuckle. Ryoko inched away as the dark chuckle turned into a laugh. “Just you wait stupid odango! I’m going to come and kill you!”

And with that, the woman tore off into the ward before Ryoko could protest. And the girl sighed and hung her head. “Three… two… one…”

“WHERE THE HELL AM I NOW?!”

Azubu-Juuban

There was a building that stood clear since the old days. It was a bit condemned considering the rumours that circled around it, that it was cursed or that the ghosts of those who lost their lives in the war would come and haunt you. It was simply put, an old building once dedicated to an elaborate Princess-finding trap set by the Dark Generals.

It was also the perfect place to use. Already naturally shielded from the outside, a pair of figures appeared.

Dressed in heavy armour that was curved in outfits of blue and red with large spikes here and there, they stood as a portal closed up behind them.

“We made it,” said the first. “Shield, do you still function?”

“Affirmative,” replied Shield in a metallic tinged voice. “Sword, our location?”

“The human city Tokyo. Our previous masters once attacked this city.”

“Glory to Queen Beryl,” nodded Shield as he stepped forward and seemed to make a face when rotted sugary treat squished under his foot. “It will be difficult to find.”

“All the better to take our time brother,” replied Sword. “We are at half strength, drained from exiting our eternal prison. The sooner we find it, the sooner we will be able to achieve our goals.”

“And our goals… still ring as one?” it was not a question but a statement.

“Indeed. Come brother. We must secure energy before we make our way into this world.”

In a twist of light both red and blue, the pair vanished.

“Any luck on the box?” inquired Usagi as she stepped into the research tent, earning a customary salute. “At ease.”

“Progress no, but translation yes.” Said Daniels who was supervising the process. “Jiro?”

“Well for one, we can confirm it’s Lunarian in nature,” replied Jiro, rapping it with a trowel. “Completely unscratchable and as we’ve tested a few things out, immune to corrosives and bullets.”

“And C4.” Chimed in Everett.

Usagi looked at Everett with an incredulous look.

“Outside the camp!” defended the scientist.

“And explosives aside, we haven’t been able to crack it. But here’s where it gets wiggy.” Spinning his computer around, Jiro tapped a few controls and brought up a translation. “Due to the translation of Lunarian script to English, I’ve been able to translate what it says on the side.”

“And?”

“Well um… this is where I hope my reading comprehension fails but uh…” Jiro looked over at Everett who recited the statement.

“Do not open until Doomsday.”

“Yeah.” Said Jiro.

Usagi stared at the pair, and then looked at the box like it contained a poisonous snake. “You serious? Do not open until Doomsday?”

“Believe me General, this was the LAST thing I wanted to hear from the eggheads,” said Daniels. “Need your coffee and aspirin now or later?”

“Make it now. And a triple triple. In fact bring the pot.” Usagi rubbed her forehead and sighed. “Well keep at it. All else fails I’ll use the rock on it.”
