JUNCTION
Tap tap tap.
The sound of feet on a deserted platform could be heard as a young Queen gathered up her skirts, running, running, running.
It hadn’t been long since Elyon arrived in this world, but it had felt like an eternity, unable to do anything but listen to the havoc Nerissa was playing with the world, using HER powers to do so. And already she had grown stronger throughout the weeks following.
She needed something, something to break free. And freedom came, with a shattering push of energy.
It was here, in the abandoned station that the queen ran around, finding no one. Not even a conductor.
Time and time again, she circled the large station, desperately looking for something to find, and now that she thought about it, Elyon felt hungry too.
Running past a booth, Elyon paused, turned and blinked at the solemn looking man who sat at the booth in a crinkled jacket of a stationmaster. Hope filling Elyon, she ran over. “Excuse me? Sir?”
The man looked up. “Oh, a passenger,” he said, returning to the still-steaming bowl of noodles in front of himself. “Train leaves at ten. You’d best be prepared.”
Elyon stole a glance at the clock, the hands firmly attached one minute to ten. “But it hasn’t been ten in ages,” she insisted.
“Train leaves at ten, young missy,” echoed the stationmaster. “Just wait for the other passengers to arrive.”
“What other passengers?”
“SPACE SWORD, NOOOOOOO!”
THUD
With a resounding impact shaking the creaky floor, Elyon turned to find a young man dragging himself out of the impact crater that marked his arrival. “OW,” he grimaced, struggling out of the hole in the ground. “I thought I was gone for sure…”
“Are… you okay?” asked Elyon. “Hey, you’re Sokka, right? Katara’s brother?”
“Yeah, who’re you?” asked Sokka guardedly.
“Oh you don’t remember? I’m Elyon, the queen of Meridian. We came to help with the invasion, remember?”
“OOOOH right!” Sokka thunked a fist into an open palm. “I remember now. Boy, that was a fiasco. Where ARE we anyhow?”
“Some kind of abandoned train station,” said Elyon.
“It isn’t abandoned,” said the stationmaster. “Train leaves at ten, like all trains do.”
Sokka looked at the clock. His expression schooled itself into a “oh damnit” expression. “Please tell me we’re in the spirit world. At least then I can be assured by the lack of toilets.”
“Not the spirit world. Train leaves at ten.”
“Okay, that guy? REALLY starting to get annoying,” said Sokka. “At least I didn’t go splat on the ground.”
“Did you fall?” inquired Elyon curiously.
“Yeah, sorta. I dropped Space Sword and I fell off a cliff…” Sokka went sheet white. “OH. MY. GOD. AM I DEAD?!”
“Not dead. Train leaves at ten.”
“OH SHUT UP OLD MAN!” roared Sokka. “In any case, not dead, in this place where the TRAIN LEAVES AT TEN--!” he yelled at the old man to make sure he didn’t repeat himself, “And I’m here with a Queen. Nice.”
“About the size of it,” shrugged Elyon, reaching over to the crater and plucking out a sheathed weapon. “Is this your sword?”
“SPACE SWORD!” in an instant, Sokka was hugging the blade. “I MISSED YOU!”
“Is it ten yet?”
“No.”
“Is it ten now?”
“No.”
“Is it ten in one second?”
“Sokka… I’m a queen with neigh-infinite powers.”
“Kay.”
“…”
“… is it ten yet?”
“SOKKA! You really want me to blast you into next century, don’t you?” raged Elyon, her nerves frazzled.
“I’m BORED! We’ve been sitting on this bench for how long? Oh look! The clock says ‘one minute to ten’. GUESS WHAT? IT’S BEEN ONE MINUTE TO TEN FOR FIFTEEN MINUTES!”
Elyon lost control. She slapped Sokka so hard, he face-planted. “Ow.”
“That… felt really good,” admitted Elyon, cooling down. “Please don’t do that anymore.”
“Ow, fine,” sniffed Sokka, bleeding from the nose. “You mind?”
For the umpteenth time, Elyon healed Sokka’s nose.
Leaning back in his hard plastic seat, Sokka stared up at the clock intently.
After five minutes of that, Elyon sighed. “Okay, I’ll bite. What are you trying to do?”
“Trying to will time to go faster. WAIT, did you see that?!” proclaimed Sokka, sitting up and pointing at the second hand. “THE SECOND HAND MOVED!”
Elyon stared at the clock. The second hand did nothing. “You’re starting to hallucinate.”
“No, I’m starting to go crazy, which is the same thing only without Cactus Juice.”
“Well it’s not like anyone new will just suddenly drop out of nowhere—“
“ACK!”
THUD
“Owww! My spleen!”
“… or they could,” said Elyon, looking at Will who was sprawled ungainly over Sokka, her elbow digging deep into Sokka’s spleen. Or pancreas. Either way, it looked HORRIBLE uncomfortable. “Hi Will.”
“Elyon?” Will looked up, unintentionally mashing Sokka’s internals as she clambered off him. “What’s going on? Where are we?”
“We’re waiting for a train, at a train station,” replied Elyon. “I’ve had Sokka for company for maybe half an hour and he’s driving me nuts.”
“Hurt bad…” whimpered Sokka, clutching Space Sword like it was a lifesaver.
“That’s Sokka for you,” laughed Will. “But what about you Elyon? How are you outside of Weira’s Jewel?”
“Well I tried to push through the jewel using my own power that was inside it, but I only managed to arrive here, in this weird world.”
“World’s not weird. Train leaves at ten.”
“THANK YOU!” called out Elyon. “I don’t think the guy says anything different.” She added in a low voice.
“So we’re just waiting? This is like the Echo quests. We’ll just wait here for the clock to hit ten and—“ started Will but then a loud exclaimation of “THE CLOCK MOVED!” came from Sokka who was sitting up and pointing.
Elyon and Will looked up at the clock. Slowly, the second hand moved. Closer, closer--!
And then the clock ticked one minute backwards, earning the most horrified expression from Sokka. “CLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOCK! WHY DO YOU FORSAKE MEEEEEEEEE?!”
